2025 Evan's Legacy Baseball Classic

Lakeland, FL — The 2025 Evan’s Legacy Baseball Classic, hosted by the Evan Michael Chambers L.O.V.E. Foundation in partnership with R2Cares, brought hundreds of players, families, and community members together over Halloween weekend for a memorable celebration of baseball, leadership, and local unity.

Held at Fletcher Park @ Lake Bonny, the three-day event honored the life and legacy of Evan Michael Chambers, whose message of Lifting Others toward Victory and Excellence continues to guide the Foundation’s work.

This year’s Classic featured competitive baseball, meaningful community moments, and a few surprises that made the weekend truly special.

MLB Pitcher Chris Sale Makes Special Appearance

One of the highlights of the event was the surprise visit from Major League Baseball star Chris Sale, a close friend of the late Evan Chambers. Sale spoke to players and families about hard work, perseverance, and character—values Evan lived by every day. He also brought signed memorabilia to share with the athletes, creating unforgettable memories for many young players.

Community Partners Step Up to Support Local Youth

The weekend also showcased the strength of community partnerships.
Ronnie Richardson, co-founder of R2Cares, shared words of encouragement and wisdom with parents and athletes, highlighting the importance of mentorship, leadership, and giving back.

In a powerful act of community care, Melanie Culpeper of the Culpeper Cardiac Foundation, in partnership with R2Cares, donated their 79th AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to the Evan Michael Chambers Baseball Field at Fletcher Park. The donation reinforces both organizations’ commitment to athlete safety and heart-health awareness.

Halloween Fun and Championship Moments

Keeping with the weekend’s Halloween theme, teams participated in a lively costume contest. Desoto High School won this year’s title with creativity and spirit that delighted the entire crowd.

On the field, teams delivered exciting matchups throughout the weekend. In the end, Winter Haven High School earned the championship trophy, being named the 2025 Evan’s Legacy Baseball Classic Champions. Jody Wilson of Winter Haven High School was named the MVP.

A Community Tradition That Grows Each Year

Organizers praised the athletes, families, volunteers, and partners who made this year’s event a success.

“This weekend is a true reflection of Evan’s legacy,” the Foundation shared. “It’s about kindness, leadership, friendship, and lifting each other up. We are grateful to everyone who came out to support the mission.”

Plans are already underway for the 2026 Evan’s Legacy Baseball Classic, which promises to build on this year’s momentum.
